My Superstars

I want to share with you my top four superfood powders that I take at least 1-2 times every day. The combination of these four can be added to your green juices, smoothies, and even your home made ice creams--yummy! (plus you can add cinnamon for a more dessert taste or cayenne pepper for a more spicy taste)

Collectively, each of these superfoods provides every conceivable health benefit that has been discovered thus far. Of course there are many other wonderful superfoods and supplements that I use, but these are my Superstars!

Spirulina is a blue-green algae that is found in both fresh and salt water. It is a phenomenal protein source and can be added to just about every dish you create! Here in Israel, you can even buy yummy Spirulina Ice Cream! I always add it to my banana ice cream and unless I overdo it known was is the wiser (except for the beautiful green color it leaves behind :-))

Just 1 Tablespoon has 4.5 grams of protein. Furthermore, it boats of a full spectrum of trace minerals, vitamins and amino acids. It, along with all of these, are great for balancing and lowering blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol. And it also is an excellent sustained energy source. Gram for gram, Spirulina may be the single most nutritious food on the planet. Did I say it also has omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids!

Moringa is a newly marketed Super Food, but not new to many cultures. It too has overall benefits, but for me it is a Vitamin A and C superstar. Vitamin A is great for improving eye site and vitamin C is the best overall cure-all there is! Other benefits of Moringa include: improved immune system, detoxifyer, water purifier, energy booster, digestion aide (important note: Moringa must be taken with liquids and water or it can cause heartburn). It also balances blood pressure, aids in healing stomach ulcers, and aids in curing cancer.

Maca is one of the best superfoods for balancing your hormones.

If you have any hormonal issues you need to look into taking Maca. If you are Peri-menopausal, menopausal, have had a partial or full hysterectomy look into taking Maca. If you are noticing changes in facial or body hair look into taking Maca.

One of the things I love, love, love about Maca is its sustained energy benefits. Not only does it help balance hormones, but it also really helps balance energy levels so that you don't have those dreaded "dips" during the day. (Now if you don't get enough sleep or overdose on sugar -- your on your own with the dreaded "dips")

Turmeric, also known as Curcumin, is the immune booster, anti-cancer super star! (along with Wheatgrass I might add--check out my post Powerful or Pungent?). It is also a natural pain killer. If you have a headache, body aches, arthritis pain, whatever pain, reach for Turmeric before Excedrin. You can find both powder and raw Turmeric at Whole Foods, as well as Turmeric supplements at any health food store. There are Turmeric based pain supplements, like Curamed -- and they work wonders!

And if all its health benefits are not enough, Turmeric is exceptional for your face, skin and teeth. Check out these DYI tips for using Turmeric on your skin!
